BRANCHING OUT : NOVEMBER 2012 NEWSLETTER |
|
FLEXIBLE WORKING (2014) Employees will be entitled to new flexible working arrangements, following a government consultation. The new rights were announced at the same time as the new rights for sharing parental leave. Every worker with six months' service, rather than just those who are parents or caring for elderly relatives, will have the right to request to work flexibly. And the government intends to simplify the right to request to work flexibly. The statutory right to request procedure will be scrapped and replaced by a simple duty on employers to deal with requests in a 'reasonable' manner and within a 'reasonable' period of time. There will be a statutory code of practice, together with guidance, on what reasonable means in this context. The changes are expected to be legislated on next year and come into force in 2014, a year before the shared parental leave rights. |

BRANCH SECRETARY’S NEWSLETTER: SEPTEMBER 2012 |
URGENT - School Support Staff I’ve been alerted to an anomaly in recent payslips. It seems some non-teaching staff have been underpaid (£1000s!) On the pay slip Mouchel have corrected an outstanding payment error, this deals with holiday and contact time payments, the figure is shown with a credit and a debit. This is money you are entitled to but hasn’t been paid due to your school not making provision for the underpayment. One alert member of staff noticed this and contacted us and has received the majority of her back pay – in the £1000s. In these difficult times so double check your payslips for the last year, if you have this credit/ debit you need to contact us for advice. |

Life Long Learning Agreement Now signed off and work has started, Tracy Lamy-Edwards has stepped into the void left by Janet Hutchinson and has had a very positive start. I have already written to Angela Seal (LCC contact) to thank her for her support and efforts in making this a workable document to enhance our role as the union delivering lifelong learning. Gavin McCann (Region) has been fully involved and supportive of our objectives. |
